Doctorate Programs

PhD or DBA – That’s the question…

A doctorate degree is the highest level of academic degree. Everyone is familiar with a medical doctor, who holds a M.D. (Medical Doctorate). You can earn a doctorate in almost any subject area. For example, most states require licensed psychologists to hold a doctorate degree in psychology.

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) »

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) »

At the Swiss School of Management we’ve created two pathways to obtain a Doctoral Degree:

The Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) offers senior executives a professional doctorate or a Business and Management equivalent of a Doctor of Laws or Doctor of Medicine degree. It is the highest level of professional and academic knowledge, coupled with the capacity to apply that knowledge to generating and evaluating novel solutions to important problems.

You will join the DBA with a specific business challenge requiring a practical solution: e.g. how to design a fast, adaptable organization; how to employ behavioural science to improve strategic decision making; how to deploy talent management to build an army of entrepreneurs.

The DBA is structured to support you in developing your thinking, framing the challenge, and implementing, evaluating and communicating solutions, which have a real, practical impact.

The PhD is a globally recognized postgraduate research degree, the highest level of degree you can achieve. PhD students are critical, curious, creative thinkers who undertake original research over at least 3 years.

The SSM PhD Program’s mission is to educate outstanding scholars who will be sought in the job market. At SSM, a commitment to training the next generation of leaders is central to our overall mission. We are fully committed to our PhD students’ success. Through rigorous coursework and supervision, our students are equipped to work and thrive at the frontiers of knowledge in their chosen subject area. Quality of thought is a public good at Swiss School of Management, with improvements in your own thinking generating a positive spill-over to the entire community of students and faculty. You will be expected to work hard but, rest assured, your efforts will bring the highest payoff.
